As night falls, the Grand Hall of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) transforms into a vibrant stage of light and music, hosting “Eternal Sun”, an immersive 35-minute experience that takes visitors on a journey through 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian civilization. Blending visual effects and sound, the show brings Egypt’s rich history and enduring legacy to life through an evocative artistic experience.
The show premiered on Sunday evening as part of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s celebrations marking the first anniversary of its official opening on November 1. It is the first in a series of events scheduled as part of the museum’s celebrations, which will continue through the end of the year. The production uses projection mapping across the architectural surfaces of the Grand Hall, accompanied by live music and narration in both Arabic and English. Its artistic concept draws inspiration from the recurring cycles of nature, including sunrise and sunset, the annual flooding of the Nile, and the harvest seasons.
At the heart of the show is the transformation of the Grand Hall’s architecture into an integral part of the storytelling, exploring how ancient Egyptians viewed the universe, life and death, and how their beliefs and mythology shaped their art and architecture. The narrative traces the evolution of Egyptian culture across the ages and its enduring legacy to this day.
Travel Yalla News takes you on a visual tour inside the Grand Hall, capturing the highlights of this extraordinary experience through photos and video.
The show takes place in the Grand Hall after the museum’s regular visiting hours. Each performance lasts 35 minutes, with two shows scheduled daily throughout the week, except on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Combining immersive lighting effects, live music and storytelling, the experience offers visitors a distinctive way to discover different aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization, further enriching Egypt’s tourism offering and strengthening its position as a leading destination for cultural tourism.
Bringing History to Life Through Innovative Presentation
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, said that “Eternal Sun” is one of the museum’s initiatives aimed at presenting Egypt’s archaeological, cultural and historical heritage through innovative approaches.
He described the production as an immersive visual experience inspired by the distinctive architectural design of the Grand Hall, taking visitors on a visual and auditory journey through 5,000 years of Egyptian history.
He added that the show combines projection mapping across the hall’s architectural surfaces with dynamic lighting, live music and narration in Arabic and English. Its creative concept draws on nature’s recurring cycles, including sunrise and sunset, the flooding of the Nile and harvest seasons, in an artistic interpretation that reflects the ancient Egyptians’ close relationship with nature and their understanding of renewal and continuity.
Meanwhile, Eng. Meret El-Sayed, CEO of Legacy Development and Management, a Hassan Allam Holding subsidiary and the operator of visitor services at the Grand Egyptian Museum, said the launch is part of ongoing efforts to expand the museum’s public programs and activities.
She noted that such initiatives are designed to encourage repeat visits and make greater use of the museum’s facilities and spaces by hosting cultural and artistic events beyond regular visiting hours.
