EgyptAir Launches Cairo–Birmingham Route, Its Third UK Destination, with Four Weekly Flights

EgyptAir has launched direct flights between Cairo and Birmingham in the United Kingdom, coinciding with the start of the airline’s winter schedule.

The route will operate four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The service provides more flexible travel options for a range of passengers, offering a comfortable and fuel-efficient flying experience.

EgyptAir marked the inaugural flight with a special celebration and souvenirs for passengers. Birmingham Airport also celebrated the launch with representatives from the airport and the airline.

Birmingham becomes EgyptAir’s third UK destination, alongside London and Manchester. The route strengthens the airline’s presence in the British market and supports Cairo International Airport’s role as a connecting hub between Europe and markets across Africa, the Middle East and the Far East through EgyptAir’s international network.

Captain Ahmed Adel, chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, said the Birmingham route was an important addition to the airline’s international network. It reflects EgyptAir’s commitment to expanding to destinations that support travel demand and respond to developments in global markets. He said the company was strengthening its competitiveness by developing its route network and offering customers more varied and flexible travel options.

Adel added that the new route provides a direct link between Birmingham and Cairo, with access to EgyptAir’s network across Africa, the Middle East and the Far East, offering passengers wider choices and convenient connections to destinations around the world.

Captain Mohamed Alyan, chairman of EgyptAir Airlines, said the destination was particularly important because Birmingham is one of the United Kingdom’s leading economic and industrial centres. The route strengthens links between the Egyptian market and central England, serves different passenger segments and meets demand for travel and tourism between Egypt and Britain. It also makes it easier for members of the Egyptian community in the Midlands to visit relatives in Egypt.

Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at Birmingham Airport, welcomed the launch of EgyptAir’s first flights from the airport. He expressed confidence that the new route would attract passengers seeking winter holidays and opportunities to explore Cairo’s tourism attractions. The service will also support the Egyptian community in the Midlands by facilitating visits to family and friends, while meeting the needs of business travellers.

The Birmingham launch follows the strategic agreement signed by EgyptAir and Birmingham Airport during the El Alamein International Airshow. It reflects the airline’s focus on strengthening strategic partnerships and pursuing growth opportunities in international markets to support the sustainable expansion of its route network.
