Egypt Invests More Than $400 Million in Airspace Modernization, Aviation Minister Says

Civil Aviation Minister Dr. Sameh El-Hefny said Egypt had invested more than $400 million in developing its airspace by modernizing radar systems, satellite networks and communications systems, and restructuring air routes and operational sectors. The improvements help increase air traffic management efficiency, make flight paths smoother and more flexible, and enhance the appeal of Egyptian airspace to airlines and international overflight traffic.

El-Hefny added that development efforts extended to modernizing airports’ digital infrastructure and expanding the use of technology to simplify travel procedures, improve the passenger experience and reduce congestion. These measures raise operational efficiency and service standards in line with international benchmarks.

He made the remarks during the “Foreign Exchange Resources and Debt Management” session at Egypt Forum 2026, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He also presented state plans to develop airports, strengthen air transport capacity, expand infrastructure and modernize national airline fleets. These plans support inbound tourism and increase the sector’s contribution to foreign-currency earnings, in line with development and expansion targets through 2030.

The session was attended by Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla; Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk; Planning and Economic Development Minister Dr. Ahmed Rostom; Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy; Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh; and Suez Canal Authority Chairman Admiral Osama Rabie, alongside experts and specialists. Broadcaster Dina Salem moderated the discussion.
