Qatar Airways has announced plans to launch direct flights between Doha and Western Sydney International Airport in Australia from December 15, 2027. Three weekly services will operate with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, making Western Sydney the airline’s seventh Australian destination. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale on December 19, 2026.
According to an announcement on its website, the flights will link Hamad International Airport in Doha with Western Sydney International Airport. The airline plans to increase the service gradually to daily flights, without specifying a date.
Western Sydney joins Qatar Airways’ Australian network of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, providing more options for connections to over 170 destinations worldwide through Doha.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Ali Al-Khater said the addition marked a new phase in the airline’s Australian expansion and would support travel, trade and tourism between Australia, Qatar and global markets.
He added that the new flights would provide direct services between Western Sydney and Doha, with onward connections across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
354 seats on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft
The aircraft will offer 354 seats across Business and Economy, including 42 Qsuite Business Class suites and 312 Economy seats. Complimentary Starlink internet will also be available as part of the airline’s long-haul services.
Doha–Western Sydney flight schedule
All times are local to each airport. Flight QR906 will depart Doha on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:40 a.m., arriving at Western Sydney at 11:45 p.m.
Return flight QR907 will depart Western Sydney on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 4:10 p.m., arriving in Doha at 11 p.m.
Services are scheduled to begin on December 15, 2027, with a gradual increase to daily operations envisaged in the airline’s future plans.
Strengthening the Virgin Australia partnership
The new service forms part of Qatar Airways’ expansion in Australia alongside the development of its partnership with Virgin Australia, creating more opportunities to connect Australian cities with the airline’s global network.
It will also provide a direct air cargo route between Western Sydney and Doha, with onward connections to Gulf markets and other international destinations through Hamad International Airport.
Western Sydney International Airport CEO Simon Hickey said Qatar Airways’ addition to the airport’s airline network would provide more travel options to Abu Dhabi, Asia, Europe and other regions through Doha.
He added that the airport’s round-the-clock operating capability was an advantage in attracting international airlines and expanding passenger and cargo services.
Hickey said connectivity through the airport’s partners was expected to provide access to more than 250 global destinations when the airport opens.
