The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that a decision by Lt. Gen. Younis Al-Masry, Minister of Civil Aviation, published in the Official Gazette, to increase the departure fee charged on every passenger on scheduled or charter international and domestic flights from Egyptian airports is set to be implemented as of the beginning of next November, which marks the start of the winter season.

A statement by the Ministry of Civil Aviation today said the planned increase in fees amounts to only 5 US dollars compared with the amounts currently collected on both domestic and international flights, which are already included in air ticket prices. The increase follows a decision by the Supreme Pricing Council after careful study, in line with practice at all airports around the world and with the challenges and requirements of fully upgrading the service system at Egyptian airports, and the fees have not been raised since 2013.

The ministry explained that the decision is in step with the plan to develop and upgrade Egyptian airports in terms of infrastructure, construction projects and the development of terminals and runways, and in line with measures to improve logistics and other services provided to achieve the highest levels of comfort for passengers traveling through Egyptian airports, which the Ministry of Civil Aviation is working to implement during the current period.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation noted in its statement that this measure is applied at most international airports that aim to improve their level of services, keep pace with everything new in the aviation industry and strive to meet passengers' constantly changing and evolving needs and requirements.
