Lufthansa and Germany's FTI Contract to Operate 400 Charter Flights to Hurghada During the Winter

Group's sales director in Egypt: Passenger numbers on our flights to tourist cities up 58%

By Akram Medhat

Sadek Mohamed, general manager of sales for the Lufthansa Group in Egypt, said that seats on flights operated to Egypt had been increased by about 100,000 during the current winter season, a 40% rise compared with last season, adding that flight frequency had grown by 38%, bringing the number of weekly flights the group operates to Egypt from Europe to 41.

He said in exclusive statements to "Travel Yalla News" that Lufthansa's expansion of flights to the Egyptian destination came as a result of a 58% increase in the number of passengers on the group's aircraft to Egyptian tourist cities.

Sadek Mohamed explained that Lufthansa does not operate charter flights, revealing that FTI, one of Germany's largest tour operators, had signed an agreement with Lufthansa to operate 400 charter flights to Hurghada during the winter season schedule.

He noted that Cairo is currently the main destination for the Lufthansa Group, and that operating flights to Red Sea cities is constantly evaluated by Germany's Lufthansa, pointing out that the group's other airlines, namely Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, already operate flights to Hurghada and Marsa Alam on the Red Sea.

On the other hand, Lufthansa's sales director in Egypt stressed that there is constant coordination with the group's partners among travel companies and tour operators, and monitoring of demand for Egyptian tourist cities, especially on the Red Sea, from various European markets, including the countries where the Lufthansa Group has airlines, namely Belgium and Switzerland, which leads the group to take decisions to increase the number of scheduled flights through its airlines or to expand successful contracts with tour operators that run charter flights to Egypt.

He pointed out that the number of scheduled flights the Lufthansa Group operates to Red Sea cities is good, reaching 20 flights a week to Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
