Oman's SalamAir announced the launch of direct flights from the capital, Muscat, to Borg El Arab International Airport in the city of Alexandria, at a rate of 3 flights per week starting this March, using the newest aircraft in the company's fleet, the Airbus A320neo.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir, stated that a daily flight is scheduled to operate starting May 1, 2019, with flights departing Muscat at 20:35 in the evening and arriving in Alexandria at 23:45, then departing Alexandria at 00:30 in the morning and arriving in Muscat at 06:55 in the morning, noting that round-trip tickets to Alexandria are now available at special prices on the company's website.

The SalamAir CEO added that operating direct flights to the city of Alexandria, the Bride of the Mediterranean, represents a step forward within the company's strategy to provide comfort, flexibility and confidence to guests on board its flights, making it the first Omani airline to offer direct flights to Alexandria, its second destination in Africa after Khartoum. He pointed out that this gives its customers the opportunity to travel directly to Muscat or to continue their journey to any destination within the company's network in the region, at competitive prices and with the highest level of service.

SalamAir's first flight (OV527), operated by an Airbus "A320neo," took off from Muscat International Airport and landed at Borg El Arab International Airport at exactly 20:15 on the evening of March 2, making Alexandria SalamAir's first destination in Egypt, following a special ceremony held to mark the inaugural flight to this new destination, attended by the Egyptian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Mohamed Ahmed Fahmy Ghoneim, and Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir.

The company also held a special celebration in Alexandria attended by partners from travel and tourism agencies, in addition to a large group of aviation sector representatives.

The inaugural flight was praised by Omani and Egyptian officials, who considered it an important step towards facilitating the movement of people and goods between the two countries, giving SalamAir guests traveling for business or leisure more travel options that suit their requirements.

It is worth noting that the SalamAir network today includes 17 destinations, namely Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Alexandria, Kuwait, Jeddah, Riyadh, Doha, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot, Shiraz, Kathmandu, Khartoum and Dhaka.

SalamAir recently signed a deal for new Airbus "A320neo" aircraft, making it the first company in Oman and the most prominent in the Middle East to operate this highly efficient aircraft type. The new aircraft operating the Alexandria flights is being delivered along with 5 other aircraft of the same category, which are expected to join the fleet during the first half of 2019. The company offers options that suit all travelers' requirements, as well as a list of value-added services including increased baggage allowance and the choice of meals and seats.

SalamAir, the first low-cost airline in the Sultanate of Oman, was founded in 2016 with the aim of meeting the requirements of growing air traffic in the Sultanate at competitive prices, as well as contributing to strengthening the national economy by creating development and job opportunities in various economic sectors in Oman. The company operates a modern fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, in addition to the A320neo aircraft that were recently contracted.
