The six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries signed a general agreement for the GCC Railway Project in Bahrain on Sunday, November 8, 2026, marking a step toward developing an integrated regional railway network designed to improve transport connectivity and support economic integration across the Gulf.

The agreement aims to establish a common framework for rail connectivity between the six member states, supporting the development of an interconnected network capable of operating across national railway systems.

The signing ceremony took place at Al Riffa Palace in Bahrain under the patronage and in the presence of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain. It was attended by GCC transport and communications ministers and GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

Albudaiwi said the agreement represents an important step toward strengthening cooperation in the transport sector and establishing a coordinated framework for railway operations across GCC countries.

He explained that the project is intended to connect all six member states through a single integrated regional railway network, with interoperability allowing different national rail systems to work together.

The planned network is expected to facilitate transport between GCC countries and strengthen regional connectivity, supporting broader economic integration.
