The US Mission in Saudi Arabia warned American citizens on Sunday, October 11, 2026, against travelling to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and its surrounding areas. It said it was aware of attacks on the airport on October 10.
According to an announcement on the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia’s website, the mission advised US citizens to avoid the airport and nearby areas and exercise extreme caution when using major airports in the Kingdom, given the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruption.
Travellers were urged to confirm flight status directly with airlines and airports before heading to the airport. The mission said US government personnel working in Saudi Arabia required special authorization to use King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, as well as the airports in Jeddah and Dammam.
Travel restrictions for US government employees also remained in place. They were not permitted to travel within 20 miles of the border with Yemen, while travel to Jazan, Asir and Najran regions and the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif required special authorization.
The mission said routine and emergency consular services for US citizens were continuing. It advised citizens to monitor local media and instructions from the authorities, avoid gatherings, demonstrations and areas with a heavy security presence, and contact their airline directly for details of flight changes if affected.
It also recommended keeping mobile phones charged, staying away from windows, glass doors and debris in the event of an aerial attack, and following official guidance.
