Minister of Tourism Dr. Rania Al-Mashat received an award from the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT), which works in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization, under the slogan "Celebrating Her", in recognition of her efforts and pioneering role in Egypt's tourism sector over the past year. Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura also received the award.

The award was presented to Dr. Rania Al-Mashat by the First Lady of Iceland, who is a UN ambassador for tourism and sustainable development.

Al-Mashat expressed her happiness at receiving this award, stressing that tourism plays an important role in building bridges of human communication between people and spreading the values of tolerance and peace among nations, and said that every tourist is an ambassador of peace between countries.

She added that, on the eve of International Women's Day, she dedicates this award to Egyptian women, who have proven their ability to play a major role in their society and assume leadership positions, pointing to the support the state gives Egyptian women.

She noted that the Ministry of Tourism's structural reform program places among its priorities increasing the participation of working women in Egypt's tourism sector.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's ambassador to Germany, and Dr. Taleb Rifai, former secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization and chairman of the IIPT International Advisory Council.

For his part, the head of the institute said this award aims to celebrate exceptional and pioneering women in the field of tourism, travel and hospitality for adopting a clear vision in promoting tourism as a tool for peace and understanding among peoples and for women's empowerment.

It is worth noting that this event is being held for the fourth year, as the award was launched in 2015, and the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) was established 33 years ago.
