Travel Chamber: Sustainable Fuel and Electric Vehicles Key to Developing Tourist Transport in Egypt

Mohannad Fleifel, board member and head of the Tourist Transport and Limousine Committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies, presented a report to Dr. Nader El-Beblawy, chairman of the Chamber of Travel and Tourism Companies and Agencies, outlining ways to step up efforts to develop Egypt's tourist transport system and keep pace with global technological developments in modern vehicles, safety, smart tracking and sustainable fuel. The aim is to improve the efficiency of transport services for tourists and raise service standards in the tourism sector.

Fleifel highlighted the outcomes of his recent participation in a number of international exhibitions and events specializing in the automotive and transport industries, including the international motor show in Hanover, as well as professional visits and inspections of specialized factories and showrooms in Europe.

The report also tracked developments in vehicle manufacturing and transport technologies, with plans to prepare specialized reports on the future of fuels and sustainable fuels, and on the potential use of electric batteries in shared transport, including buses, minibuses, microbuses and vans.

Fleifel stressed that the vision he presented to the chamber's board through the report underlines the importance of developing tourist transport as an integrated system. That system is not limited to updating vehicles alone, but also covers emissions standards, operating efficiency, safety technologies, tracking and communications systems, and the infrastructure needed to run modern transport.

He added that the vision also highlights the importance of modernizing the vehicle fleet gradually, in line with available technical and operational capabilities, while improving vehicle efficiency and moving to newer emissions standards as a first step toward benefiting from smart transport applications and modern technologies.

Fleifel explained that the study covers the future use of sustainable fuels and lower-impact alternatives, as well as opportunities to use electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, depending on the needs of the tourist transport market and the availability of the necessary operating conditions.

These directions also highlight the importance of investing in communications infrastructure, data centers and renewable energy stations, enabling wider use of advanced transport technologies in the future and supporting a gradual shift to more efficient and sustainable transport.

He noted that the report includes a study of vehicle safety technologies and the latest generations of tracking devices based on global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), as well as vehicle information and communications technology, known as telematics.

The study aims to identify what modern technologies can offer in vehicle monitoring, fleet management and safety, while assessing the requirements for applying them in the Egyptian market in terms of vehicle equipment and communications infrastructure.

The reports' findings are expected to enrich discussions on preparing a specialized vision for developing tourist vehicles in Egypt, keeping pace with global changes in the transport industry while taking into account the needs of companies in the sector and what can realistically be implemented.
