Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou revealed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has enthusiastically agreed to take part in a campaign set to launch on Facebook, with the President sharing its first post in early November under the hashtag #ThisIsEgypt ("Hiya Di Masr"), aiming to boost tourism to Egypt from all over the world.
Speaking at the World Tourism Day celebrations yesterday, Sunday, held under the theme "One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities," Zaazou said the campaign follows the success of Taymour Osman's page, which drew 4 million views for its photos of Egypt, 2,400 images shared with his friends in just 15 days. This prompted the Ministry of Tourism to engage with him and ask him to post more simple, everyday photos of Egypt's places and way of life from his own perspective.
Zaazou also stressed the importance of social media, which accounts for the lion's share of internet use in Egypt, where the number of users has reached 48 million.
