The Grand Egyptian Museum in Remaya Square received 421 artifacts moved from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, most notably a statue of King Khafre and a seated statue of King Amenhotep.

Dr. Tarek Tawfik, General Director of Antiquities Affairs and Restoration at the museum, said the statue of King Khafre is made of schist and depicts the king seated, but it is missing its head. The moved pieces also include a statue of the god Osiris, a distinguished collection of Old Kingdom statues and a collection of heads of the goddess Hathor of various sizes.

For his part, Eissa Zidan, General Director of First-Aid Restoration and Antiquities Transport at the museum, explained that the committee formed from the antiquities storage and first-aid restoration departments matched all the artifacts against the records, prepared a condition report for each piece and followed all modern packing and transport procedures, using the latest scientific methods to move this distinguished collection.

He noted that the transport was carried out using 17 wooden crates lined with acid-free materials and other moisture-absorbing materials to reduce relative humidity if it rises above the permitted limit. The transport vehicles were also equipped with anti-vibration metal units manufactured especially for transporting antiquities, and scientific devices to measure vibration, temperature and humidity were placed in them.

Zidan added that all the pieces were placed inside the laboratories of the Conservation Center in preparation for starting their restoration.
