Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has launched “Absher Travel for Visitors” for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens and other visitors entering the Kingdom through any land border crossing. The service is designed to simplify entry procedures by allowing travellers to register passenger and vehicle details electronically before arrival. Its use will become mandatory six months after launch.
According to a post on the Ministry of Interior’s account on X, the new service is available through the Absher app. It enables travellers to complete travel and entry requirements digitally, including registering passenger and vehicle information and arranging vehicle insurance before reaching the land border crossing.
The ministry said the service was available from launch, with mandatory use starting after six months, giving travellers time to use the new system before the requirement takes effect.
How to use Absher Travel for Visitors
The ministry outlined the following steps for using the service through the Absher app:
Open the “Absher Travel for Visitors” service in the app.
Select the traveller’s nationality.
Enter a mobile phone number and select the type of travel document.
Choose the land border crossing and expected travel date.
Complete the passenger and vehicle details.
Arrange vehicle insurance electronically before arriving at the crossing.
By allowing the necessary information and requirements to be completed in advance, these procedures aim to make entry into Saudi Arabia easier for travellers and their vehicles.
Available at every Saudi land border crossing
Absher Travel for Visitors covers all of the Kingdom’s land border crossings and is intended for GCC citizens and other visitors arriving through them.
The service forms part of efforts to develop digital government services, simplify travel and entry procedures, and improve the visitor experience by reducing the steps that must be completed on arrival.
Government cooperation behind the launch
The Ministry of Interior launched the service in partnership with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism; the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority; the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority; the Communications, Space and Technology Commission; the Insurance Authority; the General Directorate of Passports; and Public Security.
The cooperation aims to link travel, entry and insurance procedures through an electronic service that enables the necessary requirements to be completed before a traveller reaches the land border crossing.
The Ministry of Interior said the service was part of its plans to improve the quality of electronic services for visitors to the Kingdom and facilitate their arrival through land crossings.
