Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met senior representatives of major international airlines and tour operators, including easyJet holidays, DER Touristik, TUI and Jet2, during World Travel Market (WTM London 2026), which opened yesterday. The meetings explored closer cooperation and ways to increase arrivals to Egypt from the markets these companies serve.
Discussions covered the companies’ latest business performance in Egypt, their current and future plans, and proposals to boost tourism growth, increase flights and expand holiday programmes in line with Egypt’s diverse products and destinations. Participants reaffirmed Egypt’s appeal and competitiveness amid current regional developments.
They noted growing demand for Egypt from the UK and other international markets, prompting some operators to introduce new flights and plan further services to Egyptian destinations. These include flights from Manchester in the UK and Nice in France to Sphinx International Airport, and from Lyon in France to Luxor International Airport.
Jet2 will also begin operating its first direct flights to Egypt, serving Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh from several British cities from February 2027.
The meetings reviewed plans to increase tourism investment in Egypt. One group will develop a resort in Hurghada, while participants expressed interest in expanding investment to other destinations, including Cairo and the North Coast.
The minister outlined investment opportunities around the Grand Egyptian Museum overlooking the Giza Pyramids. He also highlighted promising opportunities in Matrouh Governorate, whose distinctive beaches, cultural heritage and authentic Bedouin traditions provide scope for varied tourism products and experiences.
Discussions also addressed existing cooperation with the Egyptian Tourism Authority on joint promotional campaigns, their positive results in raising awareness of Egypt and stimulating demand, and preparations for a new campaign in the coming period.
